KARACHI: The Malir University of Science and Technology (MUST) was launched at a local hotel on Tuesday.

Prof Tipu Sultan, chancellor of the university, said MUST was run by Zafar and Atia Foundation Charitable Trust, a non-profit organisation, and was established through a bill passed by the Sindh Assembly and assented by the governor of Sindh as an act through a gazette notification in October last year.

“Our vision is to ensure higher education for common citizens,” said Prof Sultan. He said the institution would be dedicated to affordable quality education and evidence-based research to solve community problems.

The audience was informed that the university would be run by a 15-member board of governors with Prof Sultan in the chair. The other members of the board belonged to medical field and various other segments of the society.
