KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the operation against terrorists in the city has produced commendable results because of coordinated efforts of the law enforcement agencies, but “a comprehensive strategy to make peace in the city sustainable is the need of the hour”.

The chief minister said this while talking to Corps Commander of Karachi Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, who called on him at CM House on Monday. They discussed law and order, targeted operation, implementation of the National Action Plan and decisions taken at apex committee meetings, the targeted killing of Khurram Zaki and other related issues.

They also reviewed the progress of the cases being tried in the antiterrorism courts and also the cases sent to the military courts. The case of Safoora Goth tragedy, sent for trial to military courts with the completion of formalities, was also discussed. However, a follow-up of the case was being made by the provincial law team under the guidance of the home department.

The meeting was later joined in by home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, who briefed them on the overall law and order situation. He said the investigation into the murder of Khurram Zaki was in progress and all aspects of the murder were being inquired into.

The home minister also said that the culprits who had thrown crackers in Lyari had been arrested. Some hardened criminals had been rounded up during the operation carried out on Sunday night.

The chief minister said he would not allow anybody to play with law and order. “We have restored peace with our collective efforts and now measures are being taken to make it sustainable,” he said.
