Is Shah Rukh Khan's Raees in legal trouble?

The film has been inspired by the life of a real-life gangster, and his son's suing for defamation

Uh oh, looks like Shah Rukh and Mahira Khan's upcoming film Raees has hit a bit of a roadblock.

The son of Abdul Latif, the gangster who is said to have inspired the film, has sued the film's producers for the derogatory portrayal of his father. SRK's production company Red Chillies Entertainment, and co-producers Excel Entertainment and Rahul Dholakia Productions, have been sent a legal notice by the Ahmedabad civil court, reports India Today.

Latif, who is said to have been a part of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang, was jailed for murder, kidnapping and bootlegging and was killed by the police while breaking out of prison in 1997.

His son Mustaq Ahmed claims that his family members were interviewed for Raees' script and that the producers have indeed promoted the film as inspired from Abdul Latif's life.

He further says that the latter half of the film shows his father in negative light and is damaging to the reputation of his family. He is demanding 101 crore in damages.

Raees stars SRK in the role of bootlegger, while Mahira Khan plays his wife. The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is slated for an Eid 2016 release.

The film's producers are yet to comment on the matter.

SRK should have never said Indians are intolerant. So Indians have closed the door on him. Raees will be super flop because people don't like him like they used to after the intolerant comment. This is why SRK had to get Sunny in the film because she has a large fan following. Anyway SRK is old man now and he should take rest. Tiger is the new Super Star

@Tiger or SRK u mean to say the new movie 'Fan' is a flop....?? Which hole have you been living in ? This is the biggest testimony of tolerance that inspite of being called intolerant by a fellow indian, SRK's movie Fan is a superhit.....he hasnt been shunned....Indians move on.....they dont hold on to an issue or grudge.....thats what progressive minded people do.......

@ShuBratChowdery I do agree with you, but it one must agree that SRK is on decline. Fan had mixed talk and reviews and also the film struggled to score 100 Cr. At box office it is worst movie for SRK in many years.

@Tiger or SRK Everyone must have the courage to accept the wrong. It doesn't matter from who and how. Are you going to blame SRK for his comments which are true in any 3rd world country? I am not taking side here but we must appreciate all who dare to speak the truth. Even though I dont watch SRK movies but I will salute him for this.
