KARACHI: A retired army officer was reportedly found dead in a hotel room in the city’s downtown area on Thursday, police officials claim that the officer committed suicide.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Artillery Maidan police station Abdul Ghaffar said that a retired army officer of major rank, Imran Jawed aged 55, was found dead inside his room in Mehran Hotel.

“He had arrived from Lahore and checked-in at the hotel at 9:30am, where he was later found dead with a bullet wound on his head,” said SHO Abdul Ghaffar.

The police official said police was informed about the incident at 3:00pm. “After which the police reached the crime scene and recovered a TT pistol from the room.”

The SHO claimed that it appeared to be an act of suicide and added that they were further investigating the case. Ghaffar, however, said that the deceased army official did not leave any suicide note.

Body of the deceased was shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre where Police Surgeon Dr. Khalil Shaikh also confirmed that it was an act of suicide.

The Artillery Maidan SHO said the deceased’s family in Lahore has been informed about the incident.
