RAWALPINDI: The education department on Tuesday formed seven committees to verify a labour department report to enrol 1,662 children in schools who were previously working at brick kilns.

Following verification, parents of these children will receive a Rs1,000 stipend.
The committees will visit schools and brick kilns in Rawalpindi, Taxila, Kalar Syedan and Gujar Khan.
When contacted, Executive District Officer Education Qazi Zahoorul Haq said the Punjab government’s programme for the enrolment of children gives Rs2,000 per child to the parent at the time of the child’s admission, and then Rs1,000 monthly.
