Pakistan suffered their fourth straight defeat at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup as hosts Malaysia edged off to a 1-0 win over Mohammad Imran’s side on Wednesday.
Malaysia skipper Mohammad Razie Rahim converted a penalty corner on the third minute which proved enough for them.
Later their goalkeeper Hairi Abdul Rahman saved the day for them as Pakistan continuously launched attacks but lacked composure in front of the goal.
Pakistan’s last loss against Malaysia before Wednesday’s defeat came in 2013 at the World Hockey League semi-final.
A day earlier India handed Pakistan a 5-1 defeat and dent their prospects of a podium finish in the tournament.
For Pakistan, the opponents changed but the result was as damning as their previous two losses where they were outdone 4-0 and 5-3 by Australia and New Zealand respectively.
Pakistan are currently placed at the 6th spot on the table and with one more game to play against Japan, they need a dramatic turnaround to ensure a 3rd-4th place bronze medal playoff.

Poor players, trying hard but just unable to play good enough to win. Unless corruption & favouritism goes neither hockey, cricket nor any other game will flourish. The only game making progress it seems is corruption.

Pakistan should now abandon international hockey altogether. There is no need to waste money on expensive artificial turfs. Use that money for up lift of education.
Hockey is dead for ever in Pakistan.
Preserve the precious world record as history.

Worse start of the year 2016 in every sport. Pakistan needs more investment for local areas like in Britan for example football Tennis Hockey cricket courts and centres in every village. This is how sports have more interests and investers come flying. I wish I could help but land disputes, Bribes, frauds, etc is too common in Pakistan. Goverment is a failure. I believe in Imran Khan. Their is no better leader i can think off so far!

Field hockey has been destroyed by politics and cricket in on way to a similar fate i.e. if nothing is done.
Without revival of this sport from grass root level there is no hope. If we are to see good days return to hockey then a concerted effort by media, private enterprise and government is a prerequisite. Private schools should incorporate hockey teams, club level hockey should be supported by private enterprise and media should give coverage to hockey events and stars. Aside from this the price of hockey stick should be subsidized.

The new management is doing well putting the expectations down. Let the team play & gel together for a while, focussing on smaller tournaments / bilateral series etc.
Need to work on the grass root level as that's the long term solution rather than short term Band-Aid solution (hiring a foreign coach etc). We have enough talent to bounce back - just need to develop a good structure for youth (boys & girls) to come back to sports grounds.

No worries guys keep trying. If we can suffer with cricket team with all the money, sponsorship, love and facilities for so many years. You surely deserve more chances without money, sponsorship and facilities. You surely will rise.
