QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Tuesday constituted a judicial commission headed by District and Session Judge Aftab Ahmed Lone to conduct investigation into the death of Saqiba Hakim Kakar.

Saqiba, a second year student of Government Girls Degree College in Muslim Bagh, had committed suicide after the college administration reportedly refused to send her examination form to the intermediate board, depriving her of a chance to appear in the examination.

A judge of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) had ordered the government to constitute the judicial commission while hearing a petition filed by former president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Baz Mohammad Khan Kakar, on behalf of Saqiba’s family.

The provincial government had appointed a three-member inquiry committee comprising senior officers of the education department to investigate the incident. The committee has submitted its report to Education Secretary Abdul Saboor Kakar, but it is yet to be made public.

The father of Saqiba Hakim had rejected the inquiry committee’s report and demanded that investigation into the tragic incident be conducted by a judicial commission.

Police have registered a case against the principal and a clerk of the college on the order of Justice Shakeel Ahmed Baloch of the BHC.

Aizazullah Kakar, Saqiba’s brother, held the principal and the clerk of the college responsible for her death in an application he submitted to the Muslim Bagh police station.

The judicial commission will start its proceeding in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, two sisters and some friends of Saqiba ended their hunger strike on Tuesday after the announcement about the judicial commission. They had been on a token hunger strike for two weeks.
