GWADAR: The vice chancellor of the newly established Turbat University, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, has emphasised the need for promoting a research culture in the county’s universities, saying it’s an important responsibility of any university to make it imperative for both teachers and students to use modern research methodologies and techniques for data analysis.

He was speaking at a two-day research workshop on the ‘Statistical and Econometric Software in Data Analysis’ on Sunday. The workshop, organised by the varsity’s Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation (Oric), was attended by faculty members and students.

Dr Sabir said that Turbat University had signed a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with national and international educational institutions for promotion of research activities and sharing knowledge and experiences.

Oric director Abdul Majid Nasir and a PhD research scholar in Malaysia, Balach Rasheed, shared their knowledge on statistical and econometric tools, various techniques of data analysis using the software e-views and Stata during research in various fields.

The vice chancellor said the university had sent dozens of faculty members to domestic and foreign universities for M.Phil and PhD and launched several projects to promote research culture and impart quality education to students.

“Teachers and professors have a great responsibility. It is very important for them to keep updating their own knowledge as to how to conduct research and impart education in modern and innovative way,” he said.

Later, the vice chancellor distributed certificates among participants.
