LAHORE: Law-enforcement agencies on Monday found what they called a homemade explosive device near a girls school in Kot Lakhpat.

Passersby alerted police and security agencies late on Sunday after spotting an abandoned tin near the school in Koh-i-Noor Society.

Police and bomb disposal squad reached the spot, seized the bomb, defused it and later disposed of it.

Explosive material was found stuffed in the tin and placed near the school.

Police claimed the bomb was planted to target the school and investigation would be carried out to arrest those who abandoned or planted the bomb.

A case was registered against unidentified suspect(s) under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Later, police launched a search operation in the area and arrested more than 20 people who failed to present their identification documents, and were later released.
