AS the threat of terrorist attacks is on the rise, the closure of educational institutions some time ago in various parts of the country at a time when annual examinations of Grade 5 and 8 in Punjab were approaching and matriculation examinations are not far off shows the psychological surrender of the government to deal with it.
Besides imparting knowledge, schools should also put emphasis on physical education and self-defence techniques. Skills of how to provide first aid too should be taught.
It must be made compulsory for students, as well as for teachers and other staff working in educational institutions (public or private), to get training in basic self-defence techniques.
