ISLAMABAD: A summary of proposed demands for projects in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2016-17 amounting to Rs8,157.51 million, sought by the Ministry of National Food Security, was approved by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Thursday.

The committee after intensive deliberations over the proposed demands unanimously approved the budgetary proposals for 2016-17.

It approved a report of the sub-committee on the issue of import of substandard wheat from Ukraine.

The body was apprised of the kitchen garden project, as well as olive cultivation project. The olives are successfully cultivated in Pothwar region, upper Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata regions. The ministry invited the committee members to visit these areas to inspect the projects.

The ministry’s acting secretary informed the committee that allocation for 75 projects in the PSDP has been demanded for the next fiscal year.

It unanimously agreed that the risk-based control of foot and mouth disease in animals should be given due consideration to strengthen dairy development.

It discussed break-up of department-wise proposals and demands.

The ongoing 20 projects, 17 new projects and 38 unapproved projects have been included in the proposed budget.
