Pims administrator removed

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) on Thursday removed the administrator of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

In a notification, Dr Altaf Hussain was directed to report to the ministry.

Another notification withdrew the post of additional director administration from Dr Ayesha Isani. She was directed to work at her original post in the radiology department.

In the third notification, the executive director of the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr Fazl-i-Moula, was given the additional charge of the Pims administrator.

But the staff of Pims wondered why any of the doctors and officers of the hospital was not considered for the post of the administrator.

A doctor at Pims requesting anonymity said rumours started doing the round that the minister for CADD, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, was behind the reshuffles as he had visited Pims twice and showed dissatisfaction over the patient care arrangements.

“Then, some doctors started saying that a committee constituted after the murder of cardiologist Shahid Nawaz had recommended that the administrator should be appointed from outside,” he said.

Dr Shahid was killed in the hospital in February 2015.

In the evening, a statement issued by CADD said the minister had removed both Dr Altaf and Dr Ayesha from their posts.

It added that transfers were the first step towards reforms in the hospital and the minister would ensure all facilities to the patients.
