KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have killed two suspected militants in an ‘encounter’ in the Sohrab Goth area and seized explosive material and weapons from their custody.

One of the deceased was identified as Hameedullah Mehsud, who was said to be affiliated with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (Abid Muchhar group) and involved in kidnapping for ransom and extortion and other crimes, said Malir SSP Rao Anwar.

He said the police had conducted a targeted raid in an area behind the new Sabzimandi when they came under attack. In the ensuing encounter, the officer said, the two suspects were killed while their accomplice managed to escape.The police seized one SMG, one pistol and explosive material from their custody.

The bodies were later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
