PESHAWAR: The sports and tourism department on Thursday unveiled the logo and trophy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games during a special ceremony in Bannu.

Deputy secretary (sports) Adil Safi and director (sports) Tariq Mehmood with a team of government officials from Peshawar attended the event at the historical and oldest library, where deputy commissioner Adil Iqbal and assistant commissioner Fawad Khan welcomed there. Local sports department officials, local government representatives and people including schoolchildren were also present on the occasion.

The games will begin on Feb 15 and more than 5,000 players both men and women are likely to participate in them.

Among the games for men are cricket, football, volleyball, hockey, squash, badminton, table tennis, boxing, athletics, gymnastics, judo-karate and taekwondo, while women players will take part in cricket, netball, hockey, basketball, squash, badminton, table-tennis, athletics, judo, wushu and taekwondo.

The department has already organised the logo and trophy unveiling ceremonies in Abbottabad, Mardan, Kohat and Swat divisions. A similar ceremony will take place in DI Khan tomorrow.

During the Bannu ceremony, deputy commissioner Adil Iqbal, who was previously the director general (sports), said the games were organised to hunt talented players and bring them to the forth so that their abilities and potential could be explored and exploited. He said youths should be involved in sports and other healthy activities to prevent them from falling into wrong hands and make them useful citizens for the society.

Deputy secretary (sports) Adil Safi said the unveiling of logo and trophy was aimed at creating awareness among people to participate and watch the games. He said outstanding players would be given prizes and trophies at the end of the event.
