THIS refers to a news item, ‘Knowledge is the key factor in development’ (Feb 5) regarding the lecture given by Prof (Dr) Attaur Rahman.
DNA is not a necklace. It is a helix. Even if it is considered as beads in a necklace, then in each bead it shapes itself as a helix. I think it cannot exist as a straight chain-like thing; and there are three billion (not million) base pairs.
Regarding the Nobel Prize, I would like to submit that the 2015 prize in chemistry has been shared by a Muslim chemist named Aziz Sancar of Turkey.
Indeed Dr Rahman’s thought-provoking lecture at Karachi University (his and my own alma mater) has provided immense knowledge to me. Many years ago, I suggested to Dr Rahman to work for a popular science magazine to create awareness of science among the people.
It would generate a creative mind in upcoming generations too. I would like to repeat my request.
