DERA GHAZI KHAN: A proclaimed offender allegedly took hostage 10 people of his own tribe, including children, over flouting of a decision given by a jirga in a dispute involving 20-year-long illegal detention of a man in Jampur tehsil of Rajanpur district.

According to sources, a couple of days back PO Ali Gul Bazgir kidnapped 10 people, including Abdul Majeed (40), son of Rasool Bakhsh, Mohammad Ali (35), Rashid Ali (10), both sons of Baloo Khan, Yar Mohammad (28), son of Dhola Khan, Zahid (15), son of Sharif, Arif (15), son of Nabi Bakhsh, Azher (6), son of Mureed Hussain, Shahjahan, son of Ghulam Rasool, Niaz Hussain (7), son of Khuda Bakhsh, Mohammad Irfan (7). The sources said a tribal jirga had ordered the families of the kidnapped people to pay Rs7 million to the parents of a youth Saddam whom they allegedly kept away from his family for 20 years. Saddam was separated from his parents when he was an infant over a property row, they added.

The sources said when the accused families failed to pay the amount to the victim’s parents, Ali Gul Bazgir kidnapped their sons.

Mureed Hussain Bazgir, whose son was among the kidnapped, told Dawn that the lives of the kidnapped people were in danger. He appealed to the chief minister to take notice of the incident happening in his constituency.

District Police Officer Ghulam Mubashar Maikin said Harrand police had entered a report of the incident as relatives of the kidnapped men and children did not want an FIR, fearing it would endanger the lives of their loved ones. He said after committing the crime, the kidnappers fled to mountainous tribal area of the district in the jurisdiction of Border Military Police.
