MARDAN: A sub-inspector and an attacker were killed, while a constable received critical injuries when a police van came under attack in Lundkhwar area here on Wednesday, police said.

They said that the slain sub-inspector identified as Sultan Mehmood Khan of Lundkhwar police station along with other policemen was going to Shah Dhand village to conduct a raid on the house of a proclaimed offender, Imran, who was wanted in a murder case.

They said that when the police approached the house of the proclaimed offender, his brother Salman opened fire on the personnel, killing Sultan Mehmood on the spot, while constable Shoaib received critical injuries. The attacker, Salman, was also killed in the retaliatory fire by the police.

Police also claimed arresting the proclaimed offender along with his relative, Bakhtaj Ali Khan.

The Lundkhwar police registered a case against the arrested persons and began investigations.
