PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday convicted a person for killing a police officer in an encounter in Charsadda and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs1.1 million.
The judge Saleem Jan Khan observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Raees Khan, and the evidence on record was sufficient for his conviction. The court also issued perpetual arrest warrants for three absconding accused persons named Noor Mohammad, Rahat and Abdullah.
The state prosecutor contended that officials of Charsadda police had raided a hujra on May 29, 2011, after they had received information about presence of some anti-social elements there. He stated that when the police party reached there the outlaws present inside the hujra began firing at them.
He stated that during exchange of fire SHO Farhad Ali, and an absconder, Jan Mohammad, were killed. Following completion of arguments by both the sides the court convicted the accused on different counts under the Anti-Terrorism Act, Pakistan Penal Code and Explosives Substance Act, and awarded him life imprisonment.
