ISLAMABAD: A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) allowed the filing of an appeal before the Supreme Court against an order passed on the provision of a bulletproof car to the former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

The IHC division bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi and Justice Aamir Farooq took up a civil miscellaneous application (CMA) filed by the lawyers defending the provision of a bulletproof car to Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry.

Through the CMA, Advocate Ahsanuddin Sheikh and Advocate Taufiq Asif had requested the court to permit them to file an appeal against the dismissal of another CMA which was filed for the constitution of a larger bench for the hearing of the case on the provision of the car.

Advocate Asif told the court they could not get a copy of a court order that rejected the plea of a larger bench hearing the case.

“My submission is to grant us ample time to challenge the order at an appropriate forum,” he said.

However, Justice Qureshi reminded the lawyer of the directions of the Supreme Court which had on January 27 given IHC a week to decide on the plea by the federal government for reclaiming the bulletproof car given to the former chief justice.

To this the lawyer said: “This court should not compromise the pre-requisites for the administration of justice”.

“You must trust that we will fulfill all the conditions of delivering justice,” the bench replied.

When additional attorney general Afnan Karim Kundi who is representing the federal government said he will not be available on Thursday, the hearing was adjourned till Monday, February 15.
