LAHORE: Another victim of Samanabad firing incident succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday after treatment at Mayo Hospital for three days.
On Feb 6, Safdar and his brother Bahadur were shot at and injured by their rivals when they were standing on the roof of their house in Gulzaib Colony. Safdar died on the spot and Bahadur was shifted to hospital.
The clash erupted at Chaudhry Saleem’s outhouse in Gulzaib Colony in the evening where their political rivals Iqbal and Mudassir attacked. Both groups pulled out their guns and shot at each other in which Safdar was killed.
After the death of Bahadur on Tuesday, a number of family members of the boys lodged a protest against police at Qartaba Chowk. The protesters placed the body of Bahadur on the road blocking traffic for more than three hours and chanted slogans against police for not arresting the attackers. The protest caused a massive traffic jam on Ferozepur, Queen’s, Jail, Lawrence and Canal roads.
DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. He assured them of justice on which the protesters dispersed.
Police removed the body to morgue for autopsy and added double murder charges against suspects Waqar Chota Gujjar, Salman, Hasan Butt and Majid Chaudhry.
The Iqbal Town SP (investigation) said they were conducting raids for the arrest of the suspects.
He said both the groups had developed differences during local elections which led to the killing of two from one group and injuries to two of the other group.
