LAHORE: A large number of students visited the annual 13th Dawn Education Expo 2016 at Faletti’s Hotel here on Tuesday.
The visiting undergraduates and postgraduates sought information about their academic goals and careers at the desks of local and foreign institutions.
A good number of teachers also visited the expo, organised by Dawn Media Group, and got details about PhD programmes abroad.
“I have come here to get information about pursuing higher studies in public policy abroad. I am really impressed to see dozens of foreign universities setting up their desks. After spending some three to four hours here I got ample information to pursue my goal abroad,” Muhammad Hanif, who has recently done his post-graduation in Public Administration, told Dawn.
He said he visited most information desks of foreign universities and got the required information. “I want to get a scholarship to do MPhil leading to PhD programme and the information I got here will help me achieve it,” he said.
Muhammad Qasim, an undergraduate student of a private university, wants to do Chartered Accountancy. “Before visiting the Expo I had little knowledge about pursuing my dream. But after interacting with the leading institutions’ representatives here, I have gathered a lot of information about the subject and now I am feeling much confident to pursue the degree here or abroad.”
The High Education Commission (HEC) is of the view that such an activity provides a great opportunity to students and even teachers to plan their careers in a better way. “Such an activity provides a platform to students to not only gather information about their future studies but also get answers to the problems they face in their current courses,” HEC official Jawad Ali told Dawn.
Mr Ali and his colleagues remained busy throughout the day at the Expo responding to queries of students and teachers. “We also told the visiting students that before taking admission to any professional degree of any HEC recognised university and degree-awarding institution, students and their parents must verify its accreditation from the relevant professional council,” he said.
Leading international and local universities, colleges and higher education institutes from the UK, Australia, Malaysia, Turkey, the UAE, the USA, Germany, Belgium, Dubai, Canada and North Cyprus are participating in the Dawn Education Expo that will continue on Wednesday (today) between 11am and 7pm.
This is the largest education expo to be held in Pakistan with the specific objective of helping institutes of higher learning reach a national cross section of Pakistani students who have the qualifications and means to pursue education in Pakistan or abroad.
A similar event was held on Feb 6-7 at the Karachi Expo Centre. The exhibition after travelling from Karachi and Lahore will be held in Islamabad on Feb 13 and 14.
