THE Sindh education department’s decision to downgrade primary school teachers serving in BS-16 scale and place them in BS-15 is causing them mental anguish and financial difficulties. The affected teachers are in a quandary as their pleas to the higher authorities to review the decision have fallen on deaf ears.
The education department’s demotion of their grade has reduced the monthly salary of the affected teachers by Rs7,000 to Rs11,000, depending on their seniority and service. The pay cut will also affect their final settlement and pension when they retire.
The education secretary is urged to look into the matter and save teachers from financial ruin.
