BAHAWALPUR: A ‘mysterious blast’ in a mosque bathroom early on Sunday shook the entire area around Punnoo Jhullan village in Channigoth area, about 70kms from here.

Police sources said the people became panicky and gathered outside the mosque in a large number.

Channigoth SHO Imran Ghauri said there was no casualty and a bomb disposal squad was called in.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast was so severe that the ceilings of mosque’s two bath rooms, two adjacent houses and a shop were blown away.

The police PRO claimed that the geyser installed at the bathroom of the mosque had exploded.

COMMITTEE: A city police liaison committee was constituted here on Sunday.

It was jointly inaugurated by Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Baleeghur Rehman, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) executive director Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema and Regional Police Officer Ehsan Sadiq.

They underlined the need for an effective and mutual cooperation to curb crimes and nab criminals.

The minister said he hoped that complaints against police could better be redressed with the help of the liaison committee.
