TIMERGARA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elementary and secondary education department has restored the old examination system for the 5th graders in all the state-run schools of the province, Dawn learnt on Saturday.

Earlier, the department had decided to take the 5th grade examinations through a private firm through NTS type question papers.

Deputy district education officer (DDEO) Mohammad Riaz told Dawn that a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting in Peshawar. He said now heads of high and higher secondary schools in the province would have to conduct the examinations of their feeding schools.

The DDEO said heads of high and higher secondary schools in the district had been directed to prepare question papers and make necessary arrangements for holding the examinations.

The education department official said the heads of primary schools had also been asked to send lists of their students of 5th grade to their nearby high and higher secondary schools. He said high and higher secondary schools would now prepare the tests, mark papers and announce the students’ results.

SHOPKEEPERS BOOKED: The assistant commissioner, Timergara, along with a health department official on Sunday visited different markets at Khall and checked quality of food items.

Several shopkeepers were booked and others fined for not observing official rates and maintaining quality of edible items.

Also in the day, the Khall traffic police claimed to have recovered Rs180,000 from 800 drivers on violation of traffic rules. Traffic officer Shad Mohammad told journalists that tinted glass had been removed from vehicles while unlicensed drivers were barred from driving.
