LAHORE: Family members and relatives of a teenage boy who was shot dead in an exchange of fire between two groups in Samanabad lodged a protest against police at Qurtaba Chowk (Mazang Chungi) on Saturday.

The protesters placed the body of the 15-year-old shootout victim, Safdar, on the road blocking it for traffic for more than three hours and chanted slogans against police for not arresting his killers.

The protest caused a massive traffic jam on Ferozepur Road, Queen’s Road, Jail Road, Lawrence Road, Canal Road and adjacent city arteries.

A resident of Gulzaib Colony, Safdar was killed and his brother Bahadur and their opponents Iqbal and Muddasar were injured in an armed clash between the political rivals on Friday.

The clash erupted at Chaudhry Saleem’s outhouse in Gulzaib Colony that was allegedly attacked by his political rivals, Iqbal and Mudassir. Both groups pulled out guns and shot at each other.

Following the news of the protest, Capital City Police Officer retired Capt Amin Wains reached the spot and held negotiations with the protesters, assuring them of doing justice.

The protesters ended their protest and dispersed.

Police shifted the body to the city morgue for an autopsy and registered an FIR (No. 64/15) against the suspects, Waqar Chota Gujjar, Salman, Hasan Butt and Majid Chaudhry.

Police said raids were being conducted for the arrest of the suspects.

Condition of Bahadar was stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, an LTC bus got stuck in Shadman underpass, adding to commuters problems.

Police said the driver tried to drive the bus through the underpass due to rush on the road, but the vehicle having more than the prescribed height got stuck there.

The bus was pulled out by deflating its tyres. The police arrested the driver and impounded the bus.

City traffic police deployed extra wardens on the clogged roads. The wardens set diversions and manned busy intersections to regulate the traffic.
