KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah ordered on Saturday the creation of a dedicated force for the K-IV project’s security to discourage elements “creating hurdles in the completion of this important project”.

Presiding over a meeting held to discuss progress on the K-IV project at CM House, Mr Shah said efforts be made to ensure that the first part of the three-phase project be completed within the stipulated 27 months.

The chief minister was told that some people were hindering the construction of the project. Mr Shah asked the chief secretary to coordinate with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and arrange a security force to safeguard the project.

“Such a special force for the project should work under a deputy superintendent of police,” he said and ordered city commissioner Syed Asif Hyder Shah to talk to the SSPs of Malir and Thatta to look after the security of the project.

The meeting was told that 5,117 acres of government land were required in Thatta for the K-IV project for which the Karachi commissioner said he had provided the required land for it. In Karachi 8,225 acres were required to lay the lines and other necessary structures.

The commissioner said that of 8,255 acres required for the project, only 6,218 acres government land was available in the alignment of the project and the remaining land belonged to private people.

On this the chief minister asked the chief secretary to look after the acquisition of private land.
