QUETTA: Four policemen were killed in what police said appeared to be an incident of targeted killing in the Munir Mengal Road area on Thursday.

Assailants opened fire on a police mobile, killing two policemen on the spot and injuring two others before fleeing on motorbike, police said.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed the attack in an email sent to journalists.

The injured policemen were rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment, where both the policemen succumbed to their wounds.

Police and Frontier Corps personnel reached the spot and an investigation was launched into the attack.

Earlier this month, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a polio centre in Quetta's Satellite Town area, killing 15 people, including 12 policemen.

In the past, policemen have been targeted in Quetta's Satellite Town, Sariab Road and Pashtoonabad areas.
