GUJRAT: Understanding basic concepts of mathematics can lead to solving more important and complex matters in everyday life, a mathematician told a workshop here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of University of Gujrat (UoG) on Thursday.
Dr Muhammad Usman from the University of Dayton’s Department of Mathematics, who was speaking at the two-Day International Workshop on Computational Methods in Engineering and Finance, said that however boring and abstract the subject might look, its importance and implication in other sciences and practical life cannot be denied.
He urged the participants, mostly students and faculty members from various UoG departments, to keep focus on learning “as the process never ends for the whole life”.
He further said there was no room for memorisation in mathematics and one should always keep focus on learning. He urged the students that they should not feel shy and must ask their teachers questions if they do not understand any point during a lecture or discussion.
Dr Usman, who has published more than 34 papers in internationally reputed impact factor journals, explained that a society which does not provide opportunities for discussions is likely to produce only hypocrites and that obtaining a certain degree is tantamount to getting a piece of paper if further research is not made.
