KHAR: Speakers at a seminar held here on Tuesday to mark the start of anti-corruption week in Bajaur Agency, stressed the need for creating awareness against devastating effects of corruption in the society.

The agency education department organised the seminar in collaboration with the National Commission for Human Development at Governor Model School & College here.

The participants included students, teachers, government officials and representatives of civil society.

The speakers said corruption had become a major cause of all social evils in the society affecting not only human development but also leading to an unjust society. They urged the people to join hands to curb corruption in the tribal agency. The speakers said the anti-corruption week was aimed at creating awareness among the people against the evils of corruption.

Later, the participants also held a walk to create awareness against corruption among the general public. The participants were carrying banners inscribed with ‘no to corruption’ slogans.

COMPENSATION: The political administration has announced to start distributing compensation amount among the earthquake victims from next week.

Talking to a delegation of tribal elders of Salarzai tehsil here the other day, Political Agent Mohammad Yahya Akhunzada said distribution of compensation among the victims was likely to start next week as a survey of the damaged houses was in final stages.

He said the administration was in contact with the federal government and officials concerned for early provision of compensation to the victims of quake-hit areas. He hoped that the distribution of compensation would minimise the miseries of the people.

Mr Akhunzada assured the delegation that the administration was keen on providing sufficient food, shelter and other needs of life to the affected areas.

The delegates informed the political agent about the problems the quake hit people were facing in Salarzai tehsil. They urged the political agent to take personal interest in early provision of compensation to the victims so they could rebuild their houses.
