SUKKUR: A Jirga (tribal court) convened in Karachi late on Saturday evening imposed a fine of Rs42 million on the Magsi and Qambrani communities to settle an old land dispute that had left 21 people from both sides dead in 2010.
Presiding over the jirga at his residence, former provincial minister Sardar Manzoor Khan Panhwar heard both sides and issued his ruling. The proceedings were attended by former MNA Mir Babul Khan Jakhrani, former agriculture secretary Agha Akhtar Jan Pathan, former provincial minister Agha Taimoor Khan Pathan, Arsalan Khan Pathan and Mir Shahnawaz Khan Magsi. MPA Mir Nadir Magsi could not make it.
The two communities had fought an armed battle in 2010 over a disputed piece of land within the jurisdiction of the Golo Daro police station near Shikarpur Drafted by Haji Karim Dino Badani, the ruling imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million for each of the 14 people killed by their Qambrani rivals. It noted that the bodies were also set on fire by the killers.
The Magsis were ordered to pay a fine of Rs7 million, i.e. Rs1 million for each of the seven persons killed in the clash. Accepting the ruling, the two sides announced an end to their enmity.
