LAHORE: The Punjab government has said the precious academic year of students of Lahore Campus of the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, will be saved at all costs.

“The precious academic year of the students will be saved by granting the status of college to Lahore Campus of the BZU if the problems will not be resolved,” Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood said.

Talking to reporters on Saturday, the minister said the punishment would be awarded to the elements responsible for irregularities in setting up the campus. “However, the students are not guilty in this regard,” he added.

He said a committee comprising senior officials of the education department had been constituted which was considering all aspects for resolving the issue.

He said 11 cases, including BZU Lahore Campus, were under-consideration which had been set up in violation of rules and regulations of the Higher Education Commission, Punjab.

Students of the BZU Lahore campus have been protesting against the varsity administration for not getting their campus affiliated with HEC resulting wastage of their academic years.
