Plea to Nadra

Published November 28, 2015

GOVERNMENT employees and job-holders face a typical problem as regards the renewal of their driving licences. Government employees, in particular, and other persons whose nature of job involves frequent transfers and postings face great difficulties in the renewal of their driving licences because these can be renewed only by the district where these are originally issued.

If a person has been issued a drivings licence in Karachi, he has to report to the same office, though he may be posted in Kashmir. Thus he has to travel all the way from Kashmir to Karachi for the renewal of his licence. In the prevailing situation it is incomprehensible.

A driving licence is an official document just like the CNIC and passport. If the latter can be renewed from anywhere in Pakistan, why can’t the driving licence?

It is suggested that all district licensing offices be connected to the central database at Nadra. The database must be uploaded by the licensing offices concerned to Nadra and made available all over Pakistan to licence-issuing offices. This will not only facilitate the public but also licencing offices in managing the routine work. The ministry concerned should resolve the issue to provide the public a hassle-free service.
