LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijazul Ahsan has stayed publication of 41 textbooks for primary to matriculation.
The chief justice passed this order while hearing a number of petitions against the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) for ignoring direction of the Supreme Court regarding publishing the books.
The petitioners also questioned publication of a wrong map of Pakistan in “geography book” of class 8.
The chief justice expressed dismay when PTB Managing Director Nawazish Ali appeared before the court without manuscripts of the books and details of agreements with different publishers for publishing 41 books from classes 1 to X.
The chief justice observed that the court was appalled at the performance of the institution responsible for education of the youth. He said mistakes in textbooks could not be tolerated.
Representing the petitioners, Advocate Saad Rasool had stated that the PTB ignored rules in presenting final manuscript of the books before a review committee that allowed the publishing. He said the PTB in haste also had published wrong map of the country in books of geography for class VIII.
The chief justice stayed the publication of the textbooks and directed the PTB MD to present all required details on Dec 1.
