BATKHELA: A child and an elderly man were killed when a room of their house, damaged by October 26 earthquake, collapsed here on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said that Gulzar Mama and his one-year-old grandson, Bilal, were asleep in a room of their house when its roof caved in burying them alive under the debris. They said the local people and volunteers of Al-Khidmat Foundation rushed to the site and retrieved the child and the elderly man from the rubble. The injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Batkhela, in critical condition. However, both succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Later, they were buried at their ancestral graveyard in Sharifabad, Batkhela.
