KU incident

Published November 7, 2015

AN ugly incident took place in Karachi university a few days back and its negative impact is still being felt till today ( Dawn Metropolitan, Nov 4.)

Some students playing cricket were attacked by a student organisation in which a boy was injured and several girls manhandled. The girls still feel traumatised and are facing threats and are confined to their homes.

This is not an isolated incident. This student organisation always tries to enforce its ideology of segregation.

The Women’s Action Forum is disappointed with the KU administration’s lukewarm response in the matter. They were quick to rusticate one student, who invited a model but no action has been taken to date against the attackers. This is a sheer violation of the students’ fundamental rights.

No students’ organisation should be allowed to impose its views and infringe on the basic rights of others.

WAF urges the chancellor, vice chancellor and deans of faculties to take stern action against those who committed breach of law by attacking girls and boys. There is no room for moral policing in an esteemed institution like Karachi university.
