ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-i-Sadr on Thursday to brief him on his four-day official visit to Washington last month and discuss matters of national interest.

The premier told the president that relations between Pakistan and the United States (US) are on an upward trajectory, and that Pakistan had apprised the US on the Kashmir issue and need for nuclear energy to preserve regional stability.

Important political and constitutional matters came under discussion. Presidential Spokesman Farooq Adil added that regional issues were also discussed during the meeting.

The President will be attending a summit on population "Putting People First in Pakistan's Development Agenda" today.
