VEHARI: Bahauddin Zakariya University Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Khwaja Alquma inaugurated the Vehari campus of the university here on Monday.

The classes of the campus initially started in the building of a government school.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the campus, the BZU VC said quality education could be given only if teachers were appointed on merit, urging the politicians not to interfere in hiring of the staff. He said the project was being started with an amount of Rs2 billion, adding 15 acres of land had been allotted for the campus and construction had started. The classes being started in the building of primary section of the Govt Model High School, Jinnah Road, would soon be shifted to the university’s own building, he said.

BZU Vehari Campus Director Dr Nisar said the departments of law, psychology, economics and mathematics were being started in the beginning.

MNA Tahir Iqbal said the BZU Campus would be beneficial for the students of the area to get higher education at their doorstep. MPA Mian Saqib Khursheed also spoke.
