KARACHI: A senior official of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in PIB Colony on Monday evening, officials said.

They added that Arshad Hussain, 49, was riding a motorcycle when armed bikers attacked him near old Sabzi Mandi and fled. He sustained critical bullet wounds and was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department. She said the victim sustained three gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.

“It appeared to be a targeted killing incident,” said Karachi-East DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh. However, the officer added, the police investigators were working to find clue to the killers and ascertain the exact motive for the murder.

A KMC spokesperson said the victim was an additional director of the KMC. He worked at the KMC’s accommodation department associated with residences of the officials and employees of the corporation. He was an employee of the Sindh Unified Grade Service.

The spokesperson said Arshad Hussain was going home from work when he was targeted.
