UPPER DIR: A speech competition among the students of private schools was held at the District Council Public High School here on Friday.

The completion was organised by the Sarhad Rural Support Programme under its ‘youth development activity’ programme.

Students participated in speech competitions in English and Urdu, Qiraat, na’at and national songs.

Students of Allama Iqbal Modal School and College grabbed first position in all the categories while those of District Council Public High School stood second.

On the occasion, the SRSP’s monitoring and evaluation officer, Fayyaz Ahmad, said the programme had been developed to enhance mental ability of youth by involving them in positive activities like sports.

He said games like cricket, volleyball, kabadi and other sports and quiz shows were being held among the government and private schools students in that connection. He said students of Upper Dir had potential in excelling in every field, but they lacked opportunities. Mr Fayyaz said youth could play active role in society through positive activities.

Fazal Rabi, principal of Allama Iqbal Modal School and College, thanked the SRSP for providing such positive and creative activities to the Upper Dir students and youth. He said the SRSP had been playing commendable role in the development of the district, especially in the power sector.

Shields and trophies were distributed among the students.
