PESHAWAR: A two-day orientation workshop for district nazims concluded here on Tuesday.

The workshop orientated nazims on the procedures and rules formulated by departments of planning and development, finance and local government regarding LG system, planning, development and finance, according to press release. It gave the local government representatives an opportunity to understand the Local Government Act, 2013 and rules of business for three tiers of local governance, including district, tehsil, and village and neighbourhood councils besides giving them more clarity on fiscal decentralisation, district ADP preparation and its utilisation.

Speaking on the occasion, Hangu district nazim Ubaidullah termed the training fruitful in terms of understanding devolution of power to districts and responsibilities of district nazims in this context.

Mughfirat Shah, district nazim Chitral, said this was a good opportunity to interact with provincial government authorities and clear reservations on many undecided issues. The training process should be extended to tehsil and union council level representatives, he demanded.

The training helped us understand critical aspects of the local governments, said Himayatullah Mayar, the Mardan nazim.
