FPSC tests

Published October 7, 2015

APROPOS the letter ‘FPSC Tests’ ( October 2 and 3). I agree with both writers that FPSC has many flaws in its ‘General Recruitment’ system. For the sake of more transparency and visible merit I want to give the following suggestions. 1t should issue carbon copies of the Optical Marks Recognition sheet to the candidates for each test.

It should upload the result of every candidate, whether he passes or fails or does not appear in the examination, on its website so that one can view its marks obtained by entering one’s correct roll number or NIC number.

The FPSC should upload answer keys of each test so that candidates can tally their obtained marks as declared by the FPSC with the correct choices marked by the candidate over his OMR sheet’s carbon copy.

After declaring results, FPSC should upload merit lists of candidates as per their regional quotas/merit. So that one can find one’s position in regional quotas/merit.

The names of candidates, who fail to submit their documents for necessary processing in stipulated time as announced by FPSC (before interview stage) , must also be uploaded for the candidates’ convenience so that they can know that their documents have been received by the FPSC.

As OMR sheets are machine readable, so the result declaration time must be reduced from over six months (in some cases almost a year) to two months approximately.

The employment procedure of the Federal Public Service Commission is very lengthy considering the fact that it employs extremely modern techniques for primary tests.

The screening tests held by FPSC for BPS 16 and above are multiple choice questions based and solved on OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets by the candidate which makes checking less time-consuming, as a machine that has the capability to check the answers at a speed of hundreds of sheets per hour does the work.

Even though the FPSC has and is using this technology, it takes between six to nine months to announce the result of the screening tests. This does not make sense.

After the screening test, candidates have to pass the subjective paper, medical examination, psychological test and security clearance. This takes about two years from the date of application. Many candidates are desperate to start working and are in a quandary as to how long they are supposed to bear the long wait?
