Veil & law

Published October 7, 2015

This is with reference to Rober Fisk’s article ‘ Cultural clash unveiled in Canadian court’ (Oct 1).

I endorse Zunera Ishaq’s right to wear veil according to her beliefs. However, any visitor, especially female, is advised by foreign governments to adhere to and respect the local dress code while visiting a Muslim country.

Even dignitaries follow the rules. In Ms Ishaq’s case, the issue is that of voluntarily adopting another country as her own. How then can one disregard the law of the land?
