KHAIRPUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Nafisa Shah has said that the federal government is not showing any seriousness in resolving the electricity crisis in the country.

It is a great tragedy that according to a report in 70 per cent of the electricity theft the people of the same department are involved whereas the common people are being forced to pay its cost.

She was addressing the first national conference titled ‘Latest technical skills and sustainable energy’ held at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Z.A. Bhutto campus, Khairpur, on Tuesday.

She said that if Rs80 billion was spent/ invested on the Hydel and Thar Coal Power Project instead of Nandipur, the country could have been taken out of the electricity crisis.

She said the federal minister and other officials concerned should have resigned over corruption committed in the Nandipur power project. The Sindh government was managing Thar Coal Project on its own, she said.

She said the Sindh government had taken various positive steps for the uplift of education and the MUET’s Z.A. Bhutto campus Khairpur was a great gift of the CM for uplift of education.

Ms Nafisa said the PPP formulated policies in various departments in the 1970s to lead the country to progress, but the country came under power crisis in the 1990s.

She said the research work done and awareness created at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Z.A. Bhutto campus about ways to curb electricity crisis was quite appreciable.

Z.A. Bhutto campus Pro Vice Chancellor Ghulam Sarwar Kandhir, Dr Madad Ali Shah of the Sukkur IBA, Prof Dr Ghous Bux Narejo of NED University, Karachi, Prof Dr Tanvir Hussain Phulpoto, Prof Dr Hassan Ali Durrani and others shed light on the theme of the conference and extended valuable suggestions to students on their research.
