GUJRAT: The Sara-i-Alamgir authorities on Monday foiled a bid to supply 4,000 litres of tainted milk to Islamabad.

The milk was disposed of after test as it was found contaminated with chemicals to enhance its viscosity.

Sara-i-Alamgir Assistant Commissioner Shoaib Nissoana told Dawn that he along with the officials of the health department had set up a picket on GT Road for checking vehicles carrying milk to be supplied to different parts of the district and other areas.

He said the team took some milk in a bottle from a vehicle and the health officials found it contaminated after conducting “Quaternary Ammonium compounds” test. The milk being transported to Islamabad and Rawalpindi carried chemicals to increase its thickness. The milk had turned purple because of contamination.

He said the entire 4,000 litre milk was disposed of while Yaseen and Muhammad Ashfaq of Pakpattan were taken into custody after registration of a case against them.
