Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy announces project with Meryl Streep

As if that wasn't enough to cause excitement, she hinted that it may also have something to do with Faiz Ahmed Faiz
Updated 05 Oct, 2015

Did we read that right? Is Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy really working with Meryl Streep for her next project?!

Well, her Facebook status sure hints at it.

Meryl Streep AND Faiz Ahmed Faiz? Talk about a match made in heaven!

The documentary filmmaker has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the upcoming project for now but did share that she will be revealing more next month.

Chinoy became the first Pakistani to win an Academy Award for her documentary Saving Face in 2012, and also won an Emmy for her documentary, Pakistan: Children of the Taliban in 2010. It's no wonder that she's made so many prominent friends.

So, it really comes as no surprise that she's at the helm of such a singular project. We can't wait to see it!

Sharmeen is a pillar of strength and beacon of light for the projection of Pakistans soft power abroad and at home. Sharpen would do well, if she is able to mentor, a group of upcoming film directors in Pakistan, this will in time increase our experienced new film directors, to go forth and project Zpakistani internationally and let the world know of the real and untold story of Pakistan, a land of good hearted and hospitable people.

@GA-Wow! But please try to shed some positive light on Pakistan. People are tired of this bad image. Do you have a problem with reality every country including USA has some image issues, the idea is NOT to deny it but embrace it, work on it and end it. Sweeping it under the carpet is a cowards way of dealing with an issue we Pakistanis are better than that now lets prove it to the world specially the many that bashed Miss Chinoy for putting a face on "Saving Face" a morbid senseless act that happens in certain areas of Pakistan and the victims had no voice till Miss Chinoy's film!

women are empowered in pakistan and doing wonders. she had to make a documentary about a few women who got treated unfairly. What about women who excelled in other many fields? do you think this brilliant sharmeen got an oscar because she made such a good documentary or she promoted a propaganda. think about it.
