BANNU: One suspected militant was killed and another injured when an explosive device they were carrying on their motorcycle went off prematurely at Mazangah area in the limits of Miryan police station here on Friday.

According to Miryan police, two suspected militants were carrying an IED on their motorbike when a fault occurred in the bike.

They said that the explosive device went off when they stopped. As a result, one suspected militant was killed and the other suffered injuries.

Later, the security forces and police in a joint search operation arrested the injured militant and shifted him to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The bomb disposal unit personnel reached the site to collect evidence. They said that six kilogrammes of explosives were used in the IED. A hand-grenade, detonator and gas cylinder were also recovered from the site, they said.

Police said the both the militants, aged between 19 and 20 years, were local residents. They identified on the injured as Waheed.
