KARACHI: Karachi Whites’ run in the PCB Inter-region Under-19 One-day Cricket Tournament came to an abrupt halt on Monday when they suffered their second successive defeat in the Super-Six stage against Lahore Whites in Gujranwala.

Having being humiliated by Fata on Saturday, Karachi Whites were as powerless to prevent Lahore Whites from inflicting a second defeat in three days on a team representing the country’s biggest cricket nursery.

Remarkably just as they did against Fata at the same venue, Karachi Whites mustered a modest total of 214. Whereas against Fata they had batted the entire quota of 50 overs while losing nine wickets, Karachi Whites were bowled out in 48.3 overs after Lahore Whites invited them to have first use of the pitch.

Aashir Ahmed was the highest run-getter with 33 while skipper Fahaddis Bukhari, Imran Shah, Kahaf Patel and Mohammad Asad all got into the 20s but none going onto play a major innings.

Ghulam Murtaza was the best bowler for Lahore Whites with figures of three for 47, while Ali Zaryab bagged two wickets for 43 runs.

Lahore Whites lost six wickets in reaching their target with four balls to spare. Ali Zaryab led the chase by striking six boundaries in a fine knock of 62 from 88 balls. Gohar Hafeez (47) and Mohammad Aamir (42) also made important contributions for the winning side.

Samiullah Khan bowled best for Karachi Whites to take two wickets for 11 runs.

Hyderabad also went out of the tournament when Karachi Blues sealed a four-wicket victory at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

After being humbled by Rawalpindi on Saturday at the same venue by 122 runs, Hyderabad’s decision to bat first upon winning the toss backfired.

In 41.1 overs, the boys from Hyderabad were dismissed for 152 despite defiant batting from Kamran Rehmani (41) and Uzair Jaffri (33).

Ashar Qureshi grabbed five wickets for 47 runs and Mohammad Hassaan Khan two for 50.

Karachi Blues, in reply, got home in 38 over by totalling 153-6. S.M. Tahami struck four boundaries and one six in scoring 51 off 79 deliveries with support coming from Azam Khan (33) and Zeeshan Haider (27).

Ibtesam Shaikh bowled heroically for Hyderabad to snare four wickets for 35 runs.
