DMC South Sports Festival winners feted

KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner South, Mohammad Saleem Rajput distributed cash prizes and trophies among the successful players and officials of the DMC South Jashan-e-Azadi Sports Festival in an impressive gathering here recently.

The sports festival, which was held last month, had proved a big success as a number of sports disciplines were contested in by the youth at the festival including football, boxing, athletics, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Saleem said that players and sports organisers bringing laurels for the country are heroes of the nation.

“Their efforts at sports events are commendable despite the lack of resources and facilities. And it is really good to see the youth giving fine performances and participating in sports activities which could play a big role in eliminating crime and social evils from the society,” he said.

Saleem observed that boxing and football are really popular, even at the grassroots level, in district south especially in Lyari. “Many players belonging to the Lyari area have proved themeselves at the international level which is a matter of pride for all of us.”

He also appreciated the role of DMC South regarding promotion of sports activities in district south.

Director Sports Asif Azeem, on the occasion, said that DMC South while maintaining their great sports tradition, had organized the festival again this year. He hoped that the mission to promote healthy and sporting activities across the country will continue for the betterment of the society.

Additional Commissioner Farhan Ghani Khan, vice- president of the Sindh Boxing Association Abid Brohi and secretary Asghar Baloch were also present on the occasion.—Agencies
