PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned to bring certain reforms and restructure the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) in order to make the organisation more dynamic and efficient and to run it on modern corporate lines.

This will result in generating more profits for the province, to be reinvested in upcoming energy projects. According to a statement issued here on Thursday, services of professional experts from corporate sector would be hired for this purpose.

It said that the provincial government had announced “power emergency” and directed the department of energy and power to initiate viable hydel, thermal, wind and solar power projects to resolve energy crisis being faced by the people.

“Reforms are being introduced in PEDO to enhance its capacity and efficiency,” the statement said, adding that there was no plan to privatise the organisation.

It said that contrary to these facts, some officers and union employees of the organisation were engaged against the reforms programme of the provincial government and devising conspiracies to impede progress.

The government, it said, had been pursuing a manifesto of bringing good governance and framing rules and policies to strengthen the economic condition of the province and significantly improve the quality of life of the people.
