PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has expressed his concern over the payment of only Rs300,000 to families of those killed in the Jamrud bomb blast in Khyber Agency and asked the federal government to properly compensate the victims’ heirs.

The tribal people, he said, had rendered great sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorism and they deserved maximum compensation in order to bring them back into the mainstream. He said that the meagre amount of Rs300,000 was insufficient for a family which had lost its breadwinner.

In a statement issued from QWP Secretariat, Mr Sherpao criticised the government’s compensation plan of giving a meagre amount of only Rs300,000 to the families of each dead and Rs100,000 to each of the injured persons in the recent blast and added that the government should stop discriminatory policy with the people of Fata.

He said that the people of Fata deserved the same package given to heirs of other victims in other parts of the country. He said that tribal people were facing numerous problems and the irresponsible attitude of the rulers would increase the sense of deprivation among them. He also called for accelerating the process of rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons so that they could restart a new life.
